Beverly Center to undergo $500-million renovation that will add upscale food and sunlight

The Beverly Center, a grand dame in Los Angeles retailing, is placing a $500-million bet on food and sunshine. A sweeping renovation of the eight-story mall begins late this month and will feature skylights and a new, window-dotted exterior to open and freshen the 1980s shopping fortress. Facebook May Be Releasing a New Camera App to Encourage People to Share More

Facebook is developing a standalone camera app to encourage users to take and share more photos and videos, sources tell The Wall Street Journal's Deepa Seetharaman. The app is still in early prototype stage, but as of now it opens to a camera and has a designated livestreaming feature (which would make sense, as Facebook has put a huge focus on its broadcast capabilities as of late). Folks over at Photo Rumors are making claims that Hasselblad will be unveiling a brand new camera during the Swedish camera manufacturer's upcoming live-stream event. The suspected camera may possess a M-Mount with a CCD sensor -- a dynamic duo for passionate shooters who have a slew of M-Mount Leica lenses in their arsenal and prefer the richer CCD sensors over modern digital CMOS sensors. Chicago Police Department To Monitor All Interactions With Public Using New Bullet Cams

CHICAGO—In response to calls for increased transparency and accountability, the Chicago Police Department announced Friday that it will begin monitoring all interactions with the public by using new bullet cams. “To ensure that all contact between law enforcement officers and residents is properly documented, five megapixel, high-definition cameras will be affixed to our standard-grade 9mm Luger caliber ammunition,” said Chicago Police Department Interim Superintendent John Escalante, adding that the bullet cams will capture the majority of public interactions and store them in a database. “We’ve invested heavily to modernize our police force and hope that the initiative will eliminate any misunderstandings between citizens and law enforcement.” When asked whether the public would have access to the footage, a Chicago police spokesperson had no comment. http://www.theonion.com/article/chicago-police-department-monitor-all-interactions-52136
